GearsRacing at the Sea Otter Classic
The Gears MTB team were back in action this past weekend at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California. In attendance for Gears were 2004 Olympian Kiara Bisaro, Sue Trimble, 2004 National Champ Ricky Federau and Andrew Watson. The event turned up some challenging conditions, most notably winds buffetting Sunday's XC at up to 50kph. The Canadian contingent threw down some great results with Alison Sydor winning, Wendy Simms 3rd, Lynn Bessette 6th and GearsRacing's Kiara Bisaro 7th overall. In the Men's, Geoff Kabush continued his strong season with the win. Gears Ricky Federau scored 34th overall and Andrew Watson 54th.

2005 NORBA #2 - Nova Desert Classic
GearsRacing.com's National Champion Ricky Federau and first year senior Mark Batty travelled to Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the second round of the US National MTB Series last weekend. Run in McDowell Mountains Recreational Area outside of Fountain Hills, the weather was the opposite of NORBA #1's mudfest - dry and warm. Ricky had a strong TT ride, that is until his tire got sliced. With 96 riders, the STXC was divided in half with both Ricky and Mark running the B race, with Ricky storming the front for some revenge, grabbing 2nd spot, with Mark 42nd. The XC saw Ricky's luck go south again with another flat tire, while Mark finished well in his first senior XC in 39th, good for top 50 overall. Another great Canadian weekend with Geoff Kabush sweeping the races.

Federau and Bisaro Shine at NORBA #1
March means it's time for the MTB season to start, with racers descending on Boerne, Texas for NORBA #1. Wet weather, mud, deer and good ol' hospitality greeted the racers this time out. GearsRacing's Olympian Kiara Bisaro and Natioal Champ Ricky Federau were on hand to start the season, both having great starts! With a TT, STXC and XC race, the legs and lungs were tested early. Kiara ended the weekend with 4th in the XC while Ricky finished in 12th with a flat tire. Canadians once again figured prominently in the top-10 of both men's and women's racing.
